I've just heard the word [red]Chortle[/red] in conversation :-D! As it put a smile on my face (it's just such a lovely, oldie-worldie, innocently funny word to describe the sound), I thought I'd share it.

And I began wondering if anyone else could think of some other great 'words that imitate the sound they represent', for a chuckle.

Why, I'd bet even the first old Mr. Vander Built got it. What was his nickname again? Something to do with ships, or at least, poop decks.

I really must stop now. Otherwise, I'll wander off about permissable playthings ("toilets") or strain to connect punctuation with interior barriers. "Comma Doors" and such.

Whoa. There's a Lionel Richie pun in there somewhere... (look some more...)

I CAN'T take credit for it. I got it out of the local newspaper and they found it somewhere else.

And if you do a Google search using "Vertical-bar curly-bracket comma comma CRASH." or "Ampersand bracket bracket dot dot slash," or any other of the lines, you will find dozens of copies, many with subtle variations, but NONE of them linking to my page.
