Only Server Sees Internet

I have a speedstream 5200 router connected to a server running 2000 server pro via the USB cable. The server connects to a switch via CAT 5. The switch serves all of the workstations. The server sees the internet and functions normally but none of the workstations can access the internet. The workstations see each other and the server and they all function normally.

We had some problems awhile back with IP addresses so we manually set the addresses on the workstations and the server. The server is 100.0.0.1 and the workstations are 100.o.o.x. The modem/router has an IP addrss 168. something.

This 2000 server has been very reliable. We have gone more than two years without a reboot. We have 7 workstations and the server.

Any advice will be appreciated.

We will need a little more information in order to help you.

What do you have listed as Primary DNS on your server?

What do you have listed as Primary DNS on your workstaions?

Is your server running DNS and serving your workstations for INTERNAL name resolution?

By the way, if all Internet requests are to go through your Server to the router than your workstations should have IP addresses in the Reserved Addressing Range. The address range you are using 100.0.0.x is not Reserved for Internal addressing and while I am sure it is not the cause of this problem, it could lead to problems in the future.

Also, something that is confusing me is that you say your server has an IP address of 100.0.0.1 and CAN get to the Internet, but you also say that your router's address is in the 192.168.0.x address range. These two addresses are on different networks and I am curious as to how your Server is communicating with your router at all.

Yes your addressing system is faulty, your router must have a routable address from your ISP either static or dynamic.
Set your server IP to 192.168.0.1 and enable the DHCP service to lease from 192.168.0.2-102.168.0.255. Let all workststations obtain IP automatically and set their internet gateway to 192.168.0.1, an added reliability is to obtain both primary and secondary DNS from your provider and input these for all work stations and the server. You can also just set DNS numbers for the server and they will be dished out to workstations when they log on. As mentioned by GRNEyedLdy you could use the other non routable internal IPs instead of the ones used here

You noted that you have rebooted your server in 2 years. I suggest that you reboot the server periodically to clean any memory leaks and cached info as well.

Dump the USB, get a proper router.

Unless you own class a network change to private addressing

A router has two IP addresses.. what is the other address? It should be 100.x.x.x. Are you positive the USB device is also a router, it sounds like a modem.

What is the default gateway on the client machies? Are you expecting the server is do the routing for you - if so have you setup RRAS?

We need more information.
