I know this is not a permission issue with sql server. I am an ODBC connection setup to SQL server using nt authentication. If I use this ODBC in Crystal, then mark "trusted connection" it hangs for a bit, then shows the database I chose, then dbo, then a bunch of stored procedures, no tables or view. I have verified that tables and views are selected in Crystal. I have also tried this on 2 different crystal installs (version 9).

If I use the same ODBC within excel (logged into workstation as same user), I can import data and see all the tables and views and can return all the data into excel (thus I have the permissions).

What is wrong with Crystal?

This is only an issue within Crystal.

Probably you may have unchecked Tables and Views. Click on File -> Options go to Database Tab for Data explorer ensure you have checked Tables and Views. Hope this helps.

No, these are checked. I have double-checked, triple-checked. If I choose a different OBDC which points to a different sql server from the list, I can see them all. The ODBC are setup identically.

If I unmark stored procs, it won't list anything. I inherit rights automatically as I'm an administrator. I just don't understand why the exact same ODBC, same user logged in (me), same sql server, same permissions, yet I can use excel, choose the ODBC and see all the tables, yet with Crystal I can only see some stored procs.

If I use OLE DB (ADO) connection in Crystal, I can see all the tables and views. It's not a permission or sql thing. Not sure why Crystal is doing this.

Luvsql,

Have you tried the registry change to amend the default of 8000 items to be shown by Crystal.

I posted a more detailed explanation to your question in the Great Plains forum.
