There is only one website that I can't access. It is english.aljazeera.net. I can't even ping it when every one I know can. Its ip address is 12.120.9.19. I hooked up another computer to my modem to the cable outlet and I was able to access this website from the other computer and ping it too. My cable company are saying it is for sure a computer problem (obviously) and Dell are saying it is a firewall problem. However, since I don't have any firewall programs they blamed the Mcafee firewall that I uninstalled. They say it sometimes leaves blockage after unintallation. I removed all Mcafee files and keys from the registry but still can't find the problem. I'm afraid my computer in infected.

Is this what you get?

Well, I can't help yet, but that's what I got. We need to find out the differences/similarity's we've got. My laptop is W2K pro, Fat32, with IE6. What has your machine got? FYI, this is what I got from SamSpade.

Note: builtin firewall disabled

i guess all of us are using IE6. However, i don't think it is IE related. If so why can't I ping the ip address?

I can ping english.aljazeera.net, but the ip address is 12.120.13.19. TTL=240. Maybe the site is homed on multiple ip address? I can surf on any system, but on W2k3 with IE6, I had to enable every internet security in order to surf that webpage.

Yesterday I can't ping but now the result is the same as peterpark.

I enabled all security but still can't access english.aljazeera.net. I can ping 12.120.13.19 but not 12.120.9.19 which is for I can't reach both sites using my IE6. when I type in the ip address I get the message: 300 multiple choices.

The IP address that comes up on the webpage is 207.230.120.8
????
It is a multi-home

VERY Arabic website! It has an 10 second interval to which it clicks and resets to another IP...?!?

Clicking on one of the links sent me here

Right now, you occupy a point where three lines reach across the expanse of time and space and intersect only there, and that you and only you possess.

If I ping it will give an ip of 32.107.37.39 but request time out but if I enter on my browser is OK, it's an arabic website with G W Bush on the main page and the PC i used is from IE5 win2kpro. If I enter 32.107.37.39 it will give "Status : 300 Multiple Choices ". Hmm.

I too am having similar problems with my network. I can view your website and ping successfully. My laptop is P4 2.8 W2K NTFS IE6 with latest security updates installed.

My problem is trying to access from within my network. I had to set up DNS on my server (W2K Server) because the XP workstations would take too long to log onto the domain if I used external DNS. Some of the machines would see the website until I applied IE6 update 822925. Then no access! I tried to remove the update and was still unsuccessful viewing the site afterwards. When I change DNS to external I can see the website. Microsoft says it might be Hotfix Q332184 But I think it has something to do with the header of the site or a security issue in Windows XP.

When I ran the domain name throught it gave me a bunch of warnings and fail flags. Is there any way to force DNS to forward this request to another DNS server?

My problem is solved. It was due to the IP version 6 that comes with the preinstalled win xp sp1. I did uninstall the IPv6. I can now view the website. I can also ping it but get timed out. Here are three articles from the microsoft Knowlege base:

It is not enough to uncheck TCP/IPv6 in the network properties, you have to uninstall it.

JoeLan:
Use forwarders, right click your server on the DNS snap-in and select the "forwarders" TAB and key-in your ISP DNS ip.
If the forwarders and greyed out, goto "forward look up zone" inside you can see "." folder, delete it then "forwarders" is not greyed-out anymore.

On the workstations, just point it to your local DNS ip only. Forwarders will take care of external names and return it to your workstation.

ricpinto:

Thanks, I already tried that using 2 of my isp's DNS servers and still no luck. My clients are furious everyone but them can see the site. I've tried to delete and reconfigure DNS, I've tried to clear the cache and flush DNS and no luck. Anymore ideas. I know there is a problem with the site and reverse DNS, could that be it?
