I have an access database on a shared network drive and currently it's only letting one person in it at a time. They are just double-clicking on the file and opening it regularally. When someone opens the database they do not go to file open and open it exclusivly, and when I'm in the database, I checked under Tools -> Options -> Advanced and the Default Open Mode is Shared.

ANy clues?
I compacted & repaired, problem still exists...

What server OS? What are the user's permissions for the files in the shared directory and for the directory itself?

What message is the user getting when he/she is unable to open? - - - -

Unless I am wrong here, I thought the open exclusive option was not per database, but per the installation of Access. So while you may not have the option checked, the other users do....I am about 99% sure that open exclusive is the default for an inital install of access....and this applies to all dbs you open unless you either change it in the options, or the programmes changes it when you log into the db. -------------------------------------

I ran into a similar problem recently but the lock was associated with just on one query. I finally just re-created the query (just copied the SQL and pasted it into a new query), deleted the original query and poof! No more lock!

Try implementing security, and don't give users permission to open exclusively. That should eliminate that possibility.
