we are hooking a flash up to a existing norstar. I'm not sure of the norstar release but it is fairly new. The Flash is a 4 port rel. 2.0.1. We can only get the norstar to recognize ports 2 and 3. It sees ports 1 and 4 as not active. Any suggestions. The digital ports r good. Checked with a phone. R we punching down wrong? What is the correct placement of the pairs. I used to have the info but I can't seem to find it. Thanks a lot.

With a flash when you say you have a 4 port flash what you really have is a flash that has two stations (phone system ports) connected to it and each station has two talk paths (flash ports) so when you are seeing "port 2 and 3" active I am assuming that you mean you connected the wires up for four stations onto two rj-11 jacks. is this correct??

the jack connection should be to pins 4 and 5 (the middle pair) of both rj-11 jacks/cables. The flash should only have two cables out of it and each cable only has one station port on it.

if this is correct then go into programming Maintenance->port/DN status->show the active port then press the b2 button to see if the b2 channel is also active to the VM. or alternatively try to have three or four people try to access VM at the same time.

Yeah, I connected the two rj-ll to four different station ports. I thought that's how to do it. I guess your saying that I just use one pair from each rj-11 cable. So i only use two digital ports total for a four port flash. Each digital port can supply two voice paths into flash. Thanks for the info. I'm gonna go to the site tomorrow and see whats up. Thanks again.

Yes, just to add to the confusion norstr decided that port meant different things with different pieces of equipment.

with the voicemails port means talk paths
with the ICS port means physical connection to the KSU

To set the # of channels on all startalk's try
Feature 983/1020000 press 5 - then enter the # of channels.

The F983/1020000 press 5, is to set the number of channels to be used for Off Premise Message Notification, OPMN.

Each port off key system is good for two ports. So two ext ports are good for 4 vm ports.
