Installed CE, put in some test reports and scheduled them. When a very long report processes (1-2 hours), all other scheduled reports fail(every 10 minutes test). No fail message is logged.
Everything is pretty much default setup at this time. All servers are on one machine.

Try increasing the the number of Job servers: CMC; servers, <yourreportserver>.report. If it shows 1, increase it to 3.

I am not really sure what you are reffering to with <yourreportserver>.report. I have changed the 'Maximun Jobs Allowed:' to 1000 with no luck. I have also increased a lot of other parms and moved the temp files to a larger disk. This is driving me nuts. Gary

When you look at the metrics for the Report JobServer, do you see something like this?:
Processing Mode: Launch a subprocess (Job Server Child) for every request.

hmmm - no error message? What happens when you go to the History of that report and click on the Failed link?
Anything in the event logs?

Yes my Processing Mode says to launch a subprocess. Talked to Crystal support and changed a lot, still didn't work.
Error messages, (1) No 2000 events are logged, (2) I did find a error message in the "Logging" directory that did say Info: assert failure
(y:\backend\jobserver\dlls\procreport\src\ijobdll.cpp317) the information section is empty. AND during one of my tests, I clicked on the report status 'Failed' and it said 'Unkown error occurred on the Job server'. Now that has to be a clue. I assume that is what you mean by history of the report. The metrics on the job server show NO failed job creations. Maximun jobs allowed is 10.

Yes, that's what I meant.
What a useless message - unknown error!
I would like to see the programmers when they get a paycheck with "unknown Amount"
MaxJobs should not have anything to do withthat - after all it's only a large report that causes that, not the sheer number of reports.

What is your system temp file space? Is it set up at all? What OS is this?
Can you actually refresh the report in the designer on the jobserver?

I cleaned the machine and loaded NT4 SR5 and installed CE. I then could make more that one report process at the same time.(That is good). When I loaded the Oracle client data I was back again to one report at a time, both sample reports and custome reports.

We are now installing the system on a machine with more memory and processing power. The original machine did meet the "minimum" requirements. That should have triggered something in me at the start of this project.

Someday I am going to start a thread about Crystal support and a technical service called answeres@seagatesoftware.crystal.com (or something like that) and the quality of technical servie. Nope I better not, I might get sued.

Thanks for the interest, will keep everyone informed if I find the answer. Gary

The solution-----We think---- I reinstalled the operating system (2000) and CE. This time we only installed the network
client of Oracle and it was for Oracle8 (We use Oracle7 and
were installing that client). This seemed to fix the problem.

I even get error messages that say somethng now.

Got some other issues with this "free" version but will ask them later.

Thanks everyone for your considerations and help. Gary

The final solution to this nagging problem was the installation of ALL the hot fixes. Everything works great now. Thanks again for everyones help. Gary
