Just another source of help (that is not free) but helpful nonetheless. I have found three books that are very
good if you are "seriously" interested in learning everything about Visio Pro to Ent. I believe all three just
came out withing the last two months. On a side note, (and just my observation) I have noticed in the
computer world that if you need a book to cover all that you would like to know on a subject, then you have
to purchase at least "three" books to cover everything you want to find out. Not sure why, just seems to
have worked out that way with every topic/subject i've learned so far (and that's alot of topics). Anyway,
enough personal axioms here's the books and the skinny!
MS Visio 2000 Developer's Survival Guide by Graham Wideman ISBN# 155212407-X
- This book covers everything you want to know and were afraid to ask. You can purchase it in two ways,
either as an eBook or in paperback through
But if you need it asap..skip the two month
wait and get the eBook (the author gives you the right to print as you see fit). The author also has a web
site
He gives alot of info about the book and other good stuff. This book I would
say is for the enthusiast who wants to become a Visio God! If you master this one, then you would control
the Matrix.
Learn Visio 2000 - For The Adv. User by Ralph Grabowski ISBN# 1-55622711-6
- This one covers mostly the Shapesheet and customizing databases. This would be good if you weren't planning
on becoming an expert in Visio to the level of god. Gives all the information on shapesheets that you CAN'T
find in the Visio Help files or on Micro-worthlesses Visio site (did I say that?). The book says intermediate to
advanced, but I think if you know the basics in Visio then your good to go with this one. This one is for the
Visio enthusiast who just wants to be able to dazzle your friends with your Visio prowess.
Professional Development w/Visio 2000 by David Edson ISBN# 0-672-31813-X
- I would have to say this book falls in between the two (subject to my own personal interpretation of course)
books above. But this book goes into an area that neither of the other two cover, that is in using VBA and
doing Visio Automation Solutions. It also covers the shapesheet, though not to the level of God, but enough
to get you on your way in using VBA and Automation. It comes with a CD (woo-hoo, hold me back. Some-
time remind me to give you my theory on book cost with and without a CD vs. content). I would have to say
that this would take you to Master of your Visio Dojo.
Hope this helps...I know all three did me a world of good, because your not going to get much help from, as
a friend of mine always put it, The Evil Empire unless you want to drop a wad of cash and buy into MSDN or
TechNet.
