I haven't had any success, but these are sites where you can put up a portfolio & resume, & bid for work.

There are just so many designers on the sites, I think you tend to get lost in the crowd.

It really is inexpensive to obtain your own domain name and have an ISP host your site for you. Why look for free hosting where you have to share space and follow their rules when your own space can be had for as little as $10 a month.
