So this is the situation:

I am part of a network, running windows XP, the main computer is connected to the internet and runs WIN2K, the fire wall software on that computer is
'NortonPersonal Firewall'.

My problem is:

I want to be able to play games online, but the firewall is restricting me from doing this. I wan t to use 'Game Spy Arcade'

What I have done:

I have tried adding 'rules' from the list of ports located in the game spy help menu, to the add rule screen in the personal firewall manager. This didn't seem to have an effect.

My questions:

Does winXP have it's own firewall?

What is the solution?

Is it possible to fix without buying anything and just configuring the computers?

Thanks for you're time, please help.

XP has it's own firewall, yes, but it is disabled by default.
To check goto you LAN connection, rigth click for properties, click advanced.
If the Internet Connection Firewall checkbox is on, well, so is the firewall. I doubt it is though.

As far as the other Firewall, that Norton thing, well, goto the the Gamespy site and read the faq about the ports to open.
Also, when you launch Gamespy, it tells you firewall detected.
Read about the required ports.
In the firewall, forward those needed to your XP, and open the outgoing ones needed for the XP. The solution is out there. [morning]

I'm noy sure I f I really understand what you mean?

forward those needed by XP and open the outgoing ones needed for the XP, what does this mean and how do I do it?

Thanx Again :)

Your firewall controls the in and outgoing ports etc.

1: On the firewall you have to open en forward the ports needed for Gamespy etc. to the IP address of the XP.

2: On the firewall you need to allow the XP to go the internet using certain ports neede by the game or app.

If you do not know how to do that, please check the needed ports first, then check you Firewall documentation on opening and forwarding.

Post the ports here if needed. The solution is out there. [morning]
