Hello to all

Is there an online calculator that can give details on -let's say..

I have a few files I want to upload from site to site, they coming over a 3MBPS Ethernet pipe from site to site so if I punch in the numbers the calculator would academically tell me how long it should take to download these files...

just to clarify, the files are small (txt files) but they are coming over 6 hops before they get to my site.. over an MPLS cloud.

any info would be great on this

I think there are too many variables to reliably tell you the time it would take.

The key factor I would think is that even though you have a 3MB pipe, you can only download as fast as the server can upload in a perfect world.

Calculations of this sort are complicated by factors not taken into account in the calculator cybervex supplied.

What is really required is a network simulator or modeling tool. This will take into account factors such as latency, system congestion, protocol congestions, etc.

I found this free network simulator tool. I have not tried it my self, but it sure looks interesting.
