Hi guys,

just installed One-X Portal and when I try to navigate to the URL I get the following:

System.ArgumentNullException: No message was deserialized prior to calling the DispatchChannelSink. Parameter name: requestMsg at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.DispatchChannelSink.ProcessMessage(IServerChannelSinkStack sinkStack, IMessage requestMsg, ITransportHeaders requestHeaders, Stream requestStream, IMessage& responseMsg, ITransportHeaders& responseHeaders, Stream& responseStream) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.SoapServerFormatterSink.ProcessMessage(IServerChannelSinkStack sinkStack, IMessage requestMsg, ITransportHeaders requestHeaders, Stream requestStream, IMessage& responseMsg, ITransportHeaders& responseHeaders, Stream& responseStream) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Http.HttpServerTransportSink.ServiceRequest(Object state) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.SocketHandler.ProcessRequestNow()

(N.B Port 8080 was already in use so this was changed during install as per the tech doc)

Any clues?

Hi Kyle,

Yeah tried that after trying to get to the initial Apache URL. Get the same error.

I forgot to list system info on first post:

IP500 obviously running R5
Server 2003
IE8

How long did you wait before attempting to navigate to the address?

The 10 minutes in the doc are very optimistic !
You need to wait 30 minutes in some cases

Well I did wait longer than 10 minutes and I checked the PF usage and waited for it to stabalise, but I didn't wait 30 minutes.

So I will wait a bit longer and report back.

Thanks for the input

I have also found that you may need to reboot after installation to get all the componets to start correctly, then another 10-20 minute wait :)

Also true
The service sometime stop at 400 something megabyte
Then you need to reboot the server to get it running properly

Well, rebooted the server, waited until the cows came home and still the same problem????

Being a new product there are not many known issues and workarounds, the only thing you could try is a re-installation. It doesn't take long anwway :)

But why use 8081 as port ?
The only application that should run on that server is 1XP !!!
So you can use 8080
De install it, reboot and reinstall it and use 8080 and try again

tlpeter, I couldn't see anything in the docs that said it had to be a dedicated machine. If that's the case then it could definitely be the problem.

Port 8080 is already in use for another website, I changed the port to 8081 because the docs specifically said that you could, without suggesting that it would cause a problem.

I know you were part of the trial did you find/were you told that using any other port might cause problems?

by the way gents, thanks for having a look at this for me. I do appreciate the help

try netstat -a in a dosbox, see if 8081 is used or not.

It is not in the install doc but the 5.0 tech bulletun 109 says this:

Note : one-X Portal is not supported to be installed on the same server as
other server applications.

Thanks tlpeter, have a star. Completely my fault though. I should know by now that you can't "simply" rely on the specific installation document written by Avaya for the "specific" application. :). Its like going to a bad a doctor, you always have to ask for a second opinion.

Thanks :)

I think there will be a new doc
It is holiday time now and they probably forgot to add it in the doc
It isn't mentioned until tech bulletin 109
