Hello everyone. I'm hoping somebody has run across something like this...
Customer was running One-X Portal 6.0.33 on a old Win 2003 server for a couple of years just fine. Hurricane Sandy came through and took care of that. Customer has a new (very nice) server that has VMware running for a replacement. Voicemail Pro installed just fine on the Win 2008 64-bit VMware instance (I have full admin install rights). On the other hand, when I install One-X 6.0.33 (customer IPO @ 6.0.18), the installer runs and finishes without actually placing the "Avaya One-X Portal" service in the "Services" listing itself. I've tried a 7.x version of One-X Portal for comparison, but I get the same results. Any ideas?

Thank you--Z

When you do not see the service then i think you do not have the minimum of 2Gb ram on the server.

Thank you for your reply tlpeter--confirmed that there's 8 GB RAM on the server. Z

Try disabling user account control (UAC) and then install it again.
Are you sure that IIS is installed?
When you did not then you will need to remove VMPro first and then install IIS and install VMPro again otherwise you will not have voicemail integration in 1XP.

IIS is also needed for 1XP.

I did have the same lately with release 8.1, the problem was related with the Java environment.
The setup of One-X portal went smooth and in the end the installer ask to start the service, I confirmed but no web page, when I checked the servces the Avaya One-X portal service was not there.
So I uninstalled all Avaya software, rebooted, uninstalled Java, rebooted, installed the latest Jave 6 32 bit( The server had Java 6 64 bit installed ) then VM Pro, rebooted twice after finishing VM Pro installation and confirmed correct working and then I installed One-X Portal.
Now the service was there and One-X portal runs just fine.

Thanks again for all of the replies. Here's a quick summary of the process I went through during the initial install:

1. Added & configured IIS (reboot)
2. Installed 6.0.18 Admin suite items (reboot)
3. Installed voicemail pro and imported data as needed (reboot)
4. Attempted install of One-X portal--failed
5. Bang head against wall troubleshooting (couple dozen reboots) for 4 hours then Heinekens.

Perhaps I'll try pulling everything (Avaya software & java) out and start from scratch in line with intrigrant's suggestion.

I'll let you know how I make out.

Good luck, I can not guarantee it will solve your problem as I don't have a virtual machine.

Is UAC on or off?
Do you have at least one user where 1XP is enabled? I guess you do but just to be sure.
Do you have full admin rights?

Do you perhaps install it on anything else then C:/ perhaps?
I just saw that this is a bug in the 8.1 trials and you never know :)

@tlpeter--Thanks for the checklist. I thought UAC was off, but there is a related local policy setting the IT vendor would like to adjust. I did attempt the install to D: initially, but I tried C: as well during the troubleshooting process. I will have another shot at the install by early next week and will post the score.

Have a nice weekend everybody. Z

I was able to get the Avaya One-X Portal service installed. There was a policy that was keeping UAC active. UAC turned off (completely) and I now see the service. Thank you everyone for your feedback! Z

You are welcome :)
