We have a new Nortel phone system that is producing some one sided calls. Usually the call originator can't hear the person on the receiving end. Most bad calls are outside to inside but some are inside to inside w/ 4 digit dialing.

We have a Succession system (as far as I know)with a mixture of IP and TDM handsets.

The vendor has been unable to find any cause or solution.

I'm new to the phone stuff so I apoligize if I left out any necessary detail.

Thanks!

just curios... what does nortel say

ski season has started

if it happening on IP phones ...you may need to work with your IT (that could be you !!)

was a network study done before the install?

Your vendor will be the best bet ...
could be something as simple a bad handset/headset ...bad phone ...could be user problem as well.

The vendor has been looking at the transport. The problem is widespread and intermittent. I don't know what Nortel says.

The network utilizes fiber optic (cert'd) and all new Nortel switches. According to the vendor nothing is showing up in the logs.

Oh, and it happens on both the TDM and IP phones.

what is your system type? being a new system, you could have a cable connected wronge if it's a 61 or 81, the cables that connect the cni's can cause a one way call. internal to the switch the calls are handled via 4 wire type switching, the trouble wouldn't move but could be side related

We have an Option 11 1000m Single Group, a few Succession 3.0 Branch switches, a bunch of 460's and a 1612.

Thanks!

Can you Print out your ISSP in LD 22 and post it. It may need a Patch MPLR16453 One way speechpath fix.

The vendor just upgraded us to 4.0 and said all the patches are in there that we need.

Your upgrade says no Deps or PEPs in service. If they are installed they are not going to list (ISSP). Need to have your vendor if Nortel authorized to put them in service through PDT if there is PEPs or Deps installed.

yes you need patches and the vendor needs to load them, or give them to you on a floppy, then use the mdcs command. since it's an 11 it is patches a ssc or backplane. i don't do 11's very often so i can't help past that. did a 61 to 81 upgrade and had the same problem, one cable was marked wronge. that had never happened until nortel started contracting the switches out. i have been told that nothing changed but the name.. not so.. quality control went to the dogs. had a new 81 with both cpu's strapped as cpu 0.. easy fix, just not the way nortel used to ship

Do you have a signaling server also ? What QOS are you using? Make sure all your switches are layer2 and above.

thank you everyone! Yes, I believe we have 2 signaling servers. All switches should be layer 2 and above. We are using QOS on one remote site where we are sharing the t-1 for both voice and data. But generally the voice and data networks are separate.

Here's the cfn printout...
