I recently installed a 32 bit program (Mastercam demo 8.1) onto an XP Pro machine to send drawing data to 2 Okuma Mills via Serial Port. The computer is nothing special, its a PIII 324 meg Ram 900 MHZ but it's only running the one program mentioned above. The problem is, when the program is executed the CPU hovers around 95% - 97% and the computer slows down significantly.

I read a couple of other forums about people saying that program is a DOS program shoe horned into Windows XP so it has a tendancy to do that.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to fix it so that program doesn't behave like that.

Many thanks
LC

Actually there's really no such thing as a "Dos program shoehorned into Windows XP" in my experience. It's either a DOS program or a Windows program. Now likely, what is causing the CPU drain is an improperly written wait loop or monitoring loop.

The only sure fix to it is a change in the code of the program, but you can try reducing the priority of the process that this program is running in and see if that makes any difference.
