One Mac, One PC and a linksys Router. ARRRGGGHH

I have one pc and one mac G5 os 10.3 connected to a linksys router. The router is connected to a motorola surfboard cable modem (Time Warner Road Runner).

The PC gets its I.P. address from the router just fine. (I am using the router as a DHCP server of course.) The Mac does not get an address. If I plug the mac directly into the Motorola cable modem, It will get an address from Time Warner just fine and I can get on the internet.

Any ideas here? I have even tried assigning the mac a static I.P. address and still it will not get on the internet. You can't ping the mac either when using the router.

OS9 by any chance?

Control Panel TCPIP. Edit User mode. Advanced. Bottom right button (options?) Untick the box marked use only when required. OK. Save and close.

Now in TCPIP you should have a DHCP address if you select that option.

No, it is OS 10.3

As I said before, the mac will get a DHCP address from Road Runners DHCP server (connected directly to the cable modem) but it will not obtain a DHCP address when connected to the linksys router. (The PC does fine)

System Preferences>Network>Show:Built-In Ethernet

Make sure "Connect using PPPoE" is not checked. You probably need it checked if you're connecting directly to the cable modem, but not if you're running through a DHCP router performing NAT.

Thanks, PPPoE is not checked. I had a friend say that I should try a different router and that 10.3 is the problem.

This is frustrating. (I know all PC problems are but this should be simple, right?)

Had this same problem with a linksys router and two macs. The router was bad. Replaced it with another one (exactly the same) and had no issues from then on.
Before returning try upgrading the firmware and using manual ip address on the mac.

Hi;
Disconnect the Cable Modem from the router. Start up both the Mac and the PC. After a few seconds, you will get the address.

Ok everyone, thanks for your help. I replaced the router with a new one and it fixed the problem. This started when I upgraded to Mac OS 10 by the way.
