Hello,

I have been happily remote-ing, away, a great comfort as I will be hospital or home-bound for the next several weeks and I like watching my network like a hawk. I have noticed that every time I connect, I receive an error message for any printer driver not installed on the SBS box:

It is an Error ID 1111 :Driver hp photosmart P1000 series required for printer !!XXXX(local client)!hp photosmart P1000 series is unknown. Contact the administrator to install the driver before you log in again."

I can disable local printers, using mstsc.exe->Local Resources-> and un-check printers on the remote machine, but that's a hassle and I forget sometimes. Is there a way to disable this on the SBS box instead?

Thanks!

Tony

Hey Tony

try disabling SMB Signing on your SBS and see if that helps. You can get step by step instructions from the M&M's site

I am assuming you mean smallbizserver.net..searched for "SMB signing" came up blank. I did find this on my own:

and was concerned by the following disclaimer:

Please note that SMB signing is a security feature and that by disabling it you open the door to certain security risks. This action should be taken only when absolutely necessary.

I am a security FREAK and I would consider this problem an annoyance and not absolutely necessary. As for the smallbizserver site, yes they are both SBS MVPs but I ponied up the $120 for membership thinking I could get better and faster replies to my posts...nope. Most were ignored. Their documents, while good, are all available at MS or elsewhere for free. My subscription ran out ONE DAY BEFORE my SBS OS array crashed, I found a super-comprehensive how-to-restore doc at MS...for free.

I also get faster (and much better) answers here. Maybe if they added a showercam it would be worth it...[smile] I would gladly prefer to pay someone in the US like ShackDaddy or TechSoEasy if I needed to invite a remote repair session.

HalComps,

I've already been there, thanks. The things that concern me are the fact that it is intended for WIN2K (SBS is not in the supported products list) and it involves a registry change, my approach at this time is "do no harm" as it is only an annoyance, no functionality is at stake. I can live with a bloody eventlog until I'm back on my feet.

"Don't fix a working server" is my motto.

well hope you get back on your feet soon, if not soon then sit back let every1 else look after you :)
