One folder in a Mapped Drive is SLOOOOW!

Hi all:
I have a share on a 2003 server with about 6 folders in it. This share is mapped as Drive S on all the workstations. For only two users (out of 50) ONE folder in that share is VERY slow to open (2 minutes or more).
This slowness only happens if is access by going to My Computer > Mapped Drive > Folder. If I connect by Start > Explorer > S: Drive > Folder it opens right away.
The weird thing is that every time the My Computer > Mapped Drive > Folder, method is used a New Mapped drive is created (using the last Drive letter available, usually Z), this is always a duplicate of what ever the 1st Mapped drive on the computer is (in this case Drive M).

Any Ideas on how to fix this? Or where to dig further?

2003 Member Server, XP SP2 Laptops, Gigabit connections all around, Ghost was used so the system are "identical".
 
Have you tryed mapping it on your own computer, or another computer to see if you experience the same slowness?
If no then you know there is something wrong with the install
 
No problems at all with any of the other Laptops or Desktops. All running XP SP2 all built (via Ghost) at the same time.

I've rulled out the Install having a problem as it is the same image for 10 other laptops and only two of them are having problems and only with that one folder.

I guess it could be the install, but I am lothe to redo those two Laptops as the users are VPs, don't like using computers and Very difficult to deal with.

I'll try setting up another Laptop as a duplicate of one of the two problem machines and see what happens.

More info, just as a random thought I tried a different user on that computer and had no problems. So now it must be security settings? or the User Profile.
 
here is an idea, check on the problem pcs for mapped drives that don't exist any more. Example mapped drive G:\ is \\serverA\share1, but share1 on server a doesn't exist anymore but the machine still has the mapped drive, but says disconnected. Usually if you have disconnected mapped drives it will try and create a connection to that share that no longer exist which will cause preformance issues.
 
Have a look at your Antivirus product. If the folder has tons of data in it especially if they are zipped or compressed it can take a while for the antivirus product to scan. Try and disable the AV and test.
Secondly make sure there are no extra long file names on any files or folders in this location. That can also cause problems.

Thirdly I would delete all mapped drives and re-map them. check for mapped drives easily by typing the following in at a cmd prompt:
net use

Your mouse has moved - reboot for changes to take effect
