OnClick start download & runs update query

I'm trying to create a link that starts to download a file while at the same time run a CF update to increment the number of downloads for that report.
I'm fine with the html and the CF parts of this but do not know how to connect them, ie how do I call the CF update query form the onClick?

Hi,

Why not just send the onClick to an ACTION page? There you can run your update query and set up the file transfer.
