Yup. Can't get rid of the connection box that appears on startup/on logon-it seems to be related to a porn site, as when i connect thru it, multiple sites appear.
It's really p!ssing me off...
I've tried the start menu/startup folder, msconfig.exe, had a fleeting glance in the registry, my next step is the WIN.INI file i suppose...any ideas on how to remove???
thanks

Do you want to disable automatic dialing at all or for this particular case?

If yes - it is in Control Panel --> Internet Options --> "Connections" tab --> "Never Dial a Connection" radio button (that is for IE5 and above).

If no - you need to find the program/shortcut that is on startup tries to access the internet. Since you did not see it in Programs/StartUp, it is probably in registry.
Take a look here:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
or here:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
or here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Good luck.

Also look for an uninstall in add/remove programs or in Windows Directory...

If it is Adware... Download AdAware from Lavasoft's site ( Its free and will remove any adware from anywhere its hidden.

If it is something running in the background, download PC Magazine's StartupManager and run it... Brian

I don't have the auto-connect on, but when i tried connecting with the box, the sites/shortcuts appeared. Also,
thanks for the help all, but still cant find it in reg-plus the 'HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" list is MSCONFIG's startup run list, the 'HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\-Run" list is the don't run on startup list, not in either.
its a bastard of a thing cause i dont kno wot its called, and i'm pretty sure that all the others are sposed to be there... Couple of suspicious ones-does anyone else have:

loadkk : c:\windows\system\loadkk.exe
shell : C:\windows/downlo~1/tray.exe (yes, the slashes change)
TVWatch: C:\Windows\System\TVWatch.exe
load= : C:\WINDOWS\WINOSCFG.EXE

um...yeah, thats it for now, appreciate it
:)

Try this, worked well for someone on another forum.

Download Startup.log from this site:
It generates a text file on your desktop that will list all the applications that start in the many places when you start Windows.
-----------------------------------------

Actually, it will place (2) files.

The files are generated to desktop and open with Notepad. You may be surprised at what you find.
