On Demand Sub report caption is Invisible !!

Hi All,

I am having a on demand-subreport placed on main report. Neither the default sub report caption Nor the user defined sub report caption are visible in the Priview.
When I move the mouse around the place where I had placed the report the hand mouse icon appears, and on clicking there the subreport opens, but the text on the main report is not there.

Also if I uncheck the "On demand" option , the report should be displayed in the preview tab in the main report itself, but that is also not happening.

what may be wrong here !
Please help me out.

I can't replicate this behavior.
What version of CR are you using?

You will also lose the caption if the subreport has been supressed using a formula!

I think I have told this at another place, that
If I do not link the subreport parameters to the main report formula fields then the caption is visible. But the moment I link the parameters, it becomes invisible.

I tried this with V8 and my OD Subs show captions with or without links.

Are you running from an app?

Try following :

Create a blank report, and place an ondemand subreport (with parameter @month and @type) on it. Now you will see the subreport rpt file name in the preview pane , when you move your mouse over it , mouse pointer will change to a hand shape and when you click it the Parameter Excepting window will open and after taking paremeter subreport will open in new pane.
This is an example of unlinked subreport.

Now create a parameter field '@month' and a formula field 'type' in the blank main report. And now link these fields of main report to the parameter fields of the subreport.
Now you will find that Subreport caption (rpt file name) will become invisible, but the mosue will pointer will still change when you move it over the place.

I hope now you will be able to replicate the behaviour.
Now think of some solution!

That is pretty much what I had done.
I did it again, just like you described, this time in 8.5. I can't replicate the problem.

Are you launching from an app?
What version of CR are you using?
Why do you call your parameters @month and @type. The @ is for formulas. I assume that they are ?Month and ?Type.

The OD Sub Caption can also be a formula, which might be hitting a null value. Do you have a formula for the caption? Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting

Hi Ken,

Currently I am running the report from the Crystal reports itself.

Yes I tried it again, completely from scratch with simple reports, and it did the same thing.

The main reports need to have 'month' parameter as @month as we have in Sybase Stored procedures, that is why I am using those names

I am not using any any formula for OD Sub report Caption.

Did you try it without any stored procedures?
I am sorry, I just can't replicate the problem. And if I could replicate this and confirm that it was a bug, there would be no other way to control this.
