Hi everyone, I am logged in to Nortel Business Element Manager Version 2.0.2.05e and cannot figure out how to tell the system that the number of PSTN lines are reduced from 20 to only 8. Not sure if the outbound dialing grabs the last PSTN number first but regardless I am sure I have to change the programming to 8 lines only. Please advice.

One other quick question is if someone would forget the password to log in to the Nortel Business Element Manager - is there an easy way to reset it and regain access. Thank you!!!

I'm guessing that you are referring to PRI trunks and not analogue lines?.

Some engineers I know enable all the channels on a PRI card even though the customer only has paid for only a few ISDN channels. It doesn't appear to cause any problems.

Anyway, after logging into Element Manager go to "Configuration", "Resources" then to "Telephony Resources".

Look for where your PRI module is located and highlight the line in blue. This should bring up another box underneath that then allows you yo select what channels you was to disable or enable etc.

As for losing the password, you will find it a problem. The correct procedure is to have a case raised with Avaya as they will need your BCM 50 site ID in order to generate a new passcode. There are a number of people, myself included who can probably assist you if it's still an issue.

I know we have 20 lines, do you mean with this system there are no way to accommodate 20 PSTN lines and the fact that they are 20 lines it has to be a PRI not PSTN? If that is the case, i know the base system comes with 4 lines, do we need an additional cabinet for the other 4 lines?
Thanks

You have not provided enough details.

You dont need any cabinet if you are trying to remove lines.
PRI uses channels on a DTM module.
Depending on why you are trying to do what ever it is you need to do you may need to match a fractional PRI?.

We can only offer FREE advice and help if we know more about what your are referring about. PSTN lines can be any type of telephone line and you did state that you had 20 and wanted to reduce them down to 8. The BCM 50 can support various trunks and in it's basic form assuming that it has a licence enabled it can have up to 4 analogue trunks on the main control unit.

It supports up to 2 expansion modules and these can be any number of types such as a PRI module or analogue trunks/extensions and more digital extension ports (The main unit can support up to 12 digital extensions).

You stated that you have a BCM 50. The other BCM systems such as the 400 and 450 etc will have a different setup.

If you have the BCM's site ID, then please post it here and we can try and understand what it's licensed for.
