I have a v3.x partner system 1 CPU, 3 6station/2 line modules. One of the 6sta/2line modules went out, no little green light (I guess power supply) Ordered refurbished one, but the phones don't come on (no display). Got a second moddule same thing. Reseate CPU, swapped sta/line module, the ones not working do not work in any other slot. What am I missing? The programming should be in the CPU, so replacing module should fix my problem. Any help ASAP would be appreciated.
 
Sometimes other modules short out the other modules. Meaning, you may have replaced the one without a light, but that might not have been the issue. The processor card is in the center slot. Then, slot 2 is the furthest to the left. Slot 3 is to the right of that, slot 4 is to the right of the processor, and slot 5 is the furthest to the right. (2-3-1-4-5)

Power the system down and take all but the processor and slot 2 module out. Power the system up and make sure the phones attached are all working. If so, power down and add the 206 into slot 3 and power back up. See if all phones attached to those 2 modules are working. If so, power it back down and add the final 206 to slot 4. Power back up. Make sure all phones attached are working.

Chances are, one of the earlier cards (slot 2 or 3) is shorting out one of the later cards. This will allow you to figure out which card is the true culprit.
 
Thanks for the info, tried it in every combination, did not work, I mean the CPU plus the other 206E module always have working phones. then I noticed the 206E module I put in was v.2.0, all others are 3.1. Here is my question, are these modules backwards compatible? That may be my problem.
 
The modules are backwards compatible, the "E" indicates that it is an Expansion module only (without the E, it can function as a standalone 2x6 phone system). Later modules have support for message waiting lamps on single line phones, and are less susceptible to shutting off station ports when the data pair gets shorted (and a simple power cycle or warm start will restore the port to functioning).

I would guess that you got a bad replacement module.

Telecomboy gives good advice about testing just the processor and one module at a time in slot 1 to see what's good and what's bad. Once you know what's good, put it together one additional module at a time. (and the slots are numbered 1-2-P-3-4, although most folks just refer to them as 1-2-3-4-5 with slot 3 being the one for the processor). The programming is retained in the Processor, assuming that the batteries are still holding a charge. And even if they fail, the phones will work, with all lines assigned to all extensions with immediate ring.
 
Though refurbished, all of the modules are quite old. An upgrade to a second generation Avaya Partner ACS 5 slot carrier, R6 processor and 308EC expansion modules might be worth consideration. [smile]

Thanks for all the info. I tried to talk the customer (friend) into a newer key system or compatible. He thinks this old system has several years left. Since I don't get paid for this and after purchasing 2 206E modules (which neiter of them fixed teh problem) I backed out and sent him to an actual former AT&T installer. I work anly on VoiP now, haven't worked on a legacy system for 15 years and tried to help a friend.
