Old XDB files?

Hi everyone,

I have Symantec AntiVirus 9.0 on WIN2K server. Today I noticed that there are almost 4 GB of .XDB files directly under my c:. Example: VD1DC809.XDB. All files start with VD. The most recently modified file out of these is in May 2006. Can anyone tell me what are these files for?

Deleted files older than a week. Doesn't seem to harm.
