We have just installed a new MICS 6.0 System at our office. We have an old Startalk Flash (4 port, 48 mailbox)(Software Ver. 1.4.60 97/05/03 Rel. 03A. It works fine.

We have a receptionist answer the phones as much as possible and only use AA if she is too busy or for after hours.

We do use the Voice Mail extensively and 48 mailboxes is sufficient.

Would anyone know if these two components compatible as is?

Does Nortel still sell software upgrades for this StarTalk Flash?

If I was able to find used or refurbed software, what version would be adequate?

Thank you

JB

JB,
You will need a minimum of Rls 1.9 but would be advised to go to 2.0. There are a few changes with 2.0, there is no regular path 9 and you can outdial from a mailbox. Nes purchases must still be available as it has just been discontinued. Refurb is just fine and many refurb dealers have bought up new but discontinued product.
I don't have the latest compatability chart but get the highest release that you can while you can just in case you need it to go up from Rls 6.0.

Cheers

Arr/ PhM,

Outdialing from a Flash mailbox? I thought that was only NAM and CallPilot.
Yeah, I just checked my handbook and Outbound transfer is only available with NAM 2.0 and above and the new CallPilots.

Also, Flash needs to be 2.0 to work well with MICS /CICS 6.0.

If anyone needs the new 2003 compatibility chart, just email me and I will send it to you. PDF file. MRoberts

Hi Melissa,

You can do an external transfer on a Flash from the CCR tree, but as you stated not from a mailbox. Please email me the compatibility chart when you have time. Thanks. Brian Cox

MR,
Ooops. Thanks for the tune up. Too many flavors of VM in too short a period. But I did point jb to the rls 2.0.

Yep! See that's what we do.... ya'll keep me straight and I'll keep you straight. ;-)This way everything evens out in the end.

Good arrangement, I think. MRoberts

Thanks for your input everyone. I was hoping to be able to put this old unit back into service. I'm sure the software upgrade will be much less than a new VM...

thanks again

Jb,
You're welcome.

MR,
Hellfire. Not sure you are ever wrong about anything.
