We have a customer that we are waiting for BT to convert an I.421 circuit to ETSI ISDN 30e.

The existing PRI is presented on BNCs.

If we use a G.703 balun (RJ45 to BNC converter), will the IPO be ok with the I.421 protocol.

We have been waiting 2 months to get this kit in and it is now going to take BT another 3 weeks to convert the circuit. I would like to get it ASAP.

Any answers all you good, good people.

Fooball is not a matter of life and death-It is far more important!!!!

I421 is limited ETSI call control as supplied by BT (due to be withdrawn July 2007) when all ISDN30 ccts will be ETSI

So, I guess, that the physical layer connections will be ok. and looking at this link to BT I421 SIN might give you more info.

I've seen i421 put onto ETSI PRI cards and work ok albeit in call recording environment (Index switch) which used some horrid bodge leads to get both tx/rx coaxes onto the RJ45

So i'd be tempted to give it a whirl (no warranty implied or given [wink])

Well I am making my way over to Scunthorpe early doors tomorrow to give it a go with the G.703 balun.

I will let you know mate.

Thanks for the reply.

PS

Are you a Bradford City fan??

No, and i realise that I am treading on dodgy ground, but football leaves me bored!

However, my BIL is a rabid claret and amber fan (and he has converted my daughter...)

Rugby Union is far more interesting!

Good luck in Scunny!

Scunthorpe!!!!!! escape as quick as posssible.
Interesting to find out how you get on, but Im sceptical as to whether it will work or not.

Tell them they need to sample life at the Galpharm!!!!!

Didn't get to Scunny today. I did have a nightmare with a Vegastream SIP Gateway that blew the BRIC on my INDeX!

Hopefully going tomorrow. I will let you guys know.

It didn't work!!

It did bring the trunk light up on the IPO but could dial in/out and Monitor was throwing out more L2 events than the fastest talking man in the world.

A Trend Duet couldn't sync on ETSI but would on DASS2.

I think BT have lyed to us and it is a DASS circuit and not I.421.

It was worth a try.

Cheers guys.

Pity it didn't work, but if the trend is synching to DASS and not to ETSI, would suggest its a DASS circuit.

What switch are you replacing?

It will be either a DASS2 connection or DPNSS, BT did not supply I.421\Q.931 as a75ohm termination. I.421 relates to the interface and not the L3 protocol runninng on the circuit so using the balun will only swap the impedance to 120ohm. The Ip office I would have thought will always work with the I.421 as this in itself means that the link is running Q.931. The terms are often mis-quoted and even by BT when I've been at thier labs testing... BT spec for ISDN states Q.931 on a I.421 interface, ISND30e is simply BT actually supporting more of the features specified in the full ETSI spec, although not all...
Hope this Helps
