OLD EXPLORER vs NEW EXPLORER (NEW EXPLORER - SUCKS)

I can't see drive info exactly. Public folder is confusing, Search is crap, Advanced Search is crap - both are slow and don't find what I am looking for. XP search is 10x faster.

Need 3rd party - preferably free. I have used PowerDesk in the past which is very good.

What do you mean by "can't see drive info"?

Like all of us you are suffering from withdrawal symptoms from XP, a system we knew and loved. Given time Vista will grow on you. Personally I started using Vista as a Dual Boot with XP, but the truth is I spend most of my time in Vista now.

Yes there is a new operating system to learn, but it is only a matter of time before you pick it up, so much of it is similar to XP too.

Search in Vista is tied in with Indexing Options (settings), and searches can be super fast, and have the results before you have finished typing in the search query. There is an initial lag to searching while the files are being Indexed, but this is just until the indexes are built.

See this other thread for links to a free search program (Agent Ransack) and some general comments and help on Vista's Search, such as help with syntax for more granular searching.

vista file "search" does not have option for searching content

As for Public Folders, I have never used them and just ignore them completely. If I want to share something I just set the Share up like I did in XP.

Dave,
I use PowerDesk (v. 6.0.4.2) on a desktop running XP-SP2 and a notebook running VISTA Home-Pro. Works great on both. While the latest version has not been upgraded for quite a while and, thus, I doubt that it has been upgraded for VISTA, it works as if it had been upgraded. In fact, the program's graphics are better under VISTA than under XP--I have no idea why, but they are. Finally, I use the search that come with PD and find it much more user-friendly than the search under under either XP or VISTA.

Also, try to refrain from using terms such as "suck" and "crap" on Tech Talk...not a very professional way to post information/opinions.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.
