This is very annoying, and started happening just yesterday, about 3 weeks into my clean install of XP Professional: My CDRW is displaying the info about a disc I put in about 3 CDs ago, in the Explorer, icon view. When I click on the icon, it will open up and display the correct and current CD contents.. not a BIG deal, but one of those little things that really annoy you, anybody have an idea?

thanks

I noticed that myself today on my clean install of XP Pro... Not sure what it is, hitting "Refresh" may help. Jennifer Sigman

I have also encountered several problems with my CD-Rewriter in windows XP. Sometimes, as you describe, it shows an old CD or an incorrect icon. Occasionally I lose functionality completely. The description changes from CD Writer to CD Drive, and I am unable to access any CD. The only solution is to restart windows.
This is a problem with explorer, as if I run nero (CD burning software) the disk shows up fine.

Anyone got a solution? Is there an alternative to windows explorer or it it TOTALLY integrated?

Not much of an answer but you could try using System Restore to go back in time to when everything worked correctly.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that maybe you have not deleted files that were setup to write to a previous CD and are still in the CD Burning folder.

But more than likely it seems to be a problem with XP's CD Burning software which is still a bit "buggy".

Is there any way to remove XP's CD Burning software? I never use it as it is bugged and generally nasty. I prefer to use dedicated software such as nero.
It would be interesting if one could remove this function from explorer to see if it improved matters.

I'm probably wrong but I would have thought that by installing Nero you have already disabled XP's burning software.
