Old building cable is labeled both CAT5 and CAT5e 1

The cabling in use in this building is labeled with Cat5 and then 3 inches later it says Cat5e both followed by different ISO standards. Is this cable actually rated to true Cat5e if it is bearing the rating or should I be worried? I plan to run gigabit over this cable.

How many links are we talking about?

The best way to tell whether your cabling is going to support gigabit would be to have a contractor come in and certify it to CAT5e. Your could even hire a certifier yourself if you familiarise yourself with the tests.

Could you post the exact wording on the cable. Include everything up to where it repeats.

The obvious difference is the International Standard as stated CAT5 vs. EIA/TIA CAT5e. Question: Does ISO have a lag or different view of the cable?
