I have an old version of MSDN (1999 Visual Studio 6.0 Enterpise Edition). All I need to load is VFP 6.0 out of this but for some reason it keeps asking me to insert the proper disk for the help files. There are only 3 disks relating to VS 6 out of the whole MSDN set. Does any body know what disk I should be looking for or where I can find one.

Hi Mike,

VFP6 came with a pared down version of MSDN Library. That disk is where the help for VFP6 is.

Regards,

Mike

When I hit "Help" at the top level menu or F1, the help option is dimmed. You say the pared down version came with MSDN Library, do you know what the disk number or disk title is? I have removed VFP 6.0 and reloaded it twice. When it came time to insert the disk to load help, I tried every disk I had.

mike255,

Look for a file called FOXHELP.HLP. If you find it on the CD, copy it to your VFP directory. Then, in VFP, go to Tools / Options / File Locations, and set the location of the Help file to point to that file. Finally, click Set As Default.

Mike

Geoff,

Hope I'm not going to cause any confusion butmy VFP 6 help file in MSDN is FoxHelp.Chm

You know, as soon as I hit the Submit button, it occurred to me that it was a CHM rather than an HLP.
Mike

All this info has been very helpful after I find the file. I have searched every MSDN disk I have for foxhelp.chm with no results (using the windows search function). Where would I FIND this elusive file? Thanks

The lastest and last VFP 6.0 help file (a .CHM) was on the April 2001 MSDN library disks. You'll need one at least that old.

Rick

Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 came with a two disk cd case containing msdn Library Visual Studio 6.0. I am looking at it as I write. I tried running just foxhelp.chm from the disk, got an error, a window popped up that had no links that were functional.

The whole library has to be installed. The dates of the files and directories were 1998.

Mike

Here goes -- I teach a basic (beginning, NOT VB) database programming class for high school students. Rather than use Access (which I might have to switch to) I thought it would be more interesting to the students to use a program like Visual Foxpro. However, the last time the school board approved $ for programming tools was for MSDN in 1998, the last set of disks we got are dated March, 1999. I don't know if half of these disks "walked out the door" or what but all I can find are 3 disks labeled "Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition" (disks 1-3). Are you saying that the foxhelp.chm file I need is not on any of those disks? Does anybody know how I can get JUST the library file I need. I'm not looking for a bootleg copy of the whole Visual Studio. Mike

Hi Mike,

I have a copy of VFP6 Academic Edition that I haven't used since I purchased a MSDN Pro subscription. I have read the EULA and it specifies that I canot resell the product, but I can transfer the license. Since I don't really need it I would be willing to UPS it to you for the shipping charge.

Email your shipping address to mikeATcomtekDOTcom and I will check with our shipping department to find out what the cost for UPS Ground is.

Regards,

Mike

You don't have access to an FTP site? How ships things anymore?

Hi Mike,

I need to ship the whole package that includes the EULA and COA. Can't do that with FTP.

Mike

As I remember it, in addition to the Visual Studio disks, there were separate MSDN Library disks (two, I think) that included all the help files.

Okay, just pulled my 1999 MSDN set out of a box. The index includes these lines:

October 1998 CD 5: MSDN™ Library, Visual Studio® 6.0a Edition, Disc 1
October 1998 CD 6: MSDN™ Library, Visual Studio® 6.0a Edition, Disc 2

I'm pretty sure that's what you're looking for.

Tamar

Hi Tamar,

They (2) are in the original box with the EULA and COA and, of course the VFP6 disk. I just finished mailing them to Mike. He will have to find out where he can download Visual Studio SP1 to get the updates for VFP6. He should get them early next week.

Regards,

Mike

For some reason, the school kept upgrades for service packs so I was able to find SP5 for Visual Studio 6. From what I remember, SP5 was the last service pack for VS6.
Mike, check is in the mail and I'll love you in the morning (don't presume anything by that joke, just thanks a lot)
Mike

Hi Mike,

Don't know why I didn't remember VS6 SP5. You are correct that VFP6 didn't have seperate SP's, they were all Visual Studio SP's.

Two ships passing in the night.

Regards, and enjoy,

Mike
