OK - FED UP - Turning to You Guys to help with Win 7 - DESKTOP ICON GRID ALIGN RECHECKS ITSELF!

I have never ending problems with Win 7 - nothing works so far - Problem: I like to spread out my desktop icons - NOT align to grid! Procedure: right click desktop/view/uncheck align to grid/blablabla - well I do it and then it rechecks after refresh immediately by itself and moves icons back to grid which i dont want. I ve tried different things - nothing works so far. Also I: right click desktop/personalize/ease of use/change admin settings/CHECK: apply all setting to logon desktop - hit ok etc - The check mark DOES NOT STAY PUT. Anyone know why? and is this possibly the solution to the ICON desktop grid issue? I am administrator, owner and CEO of my laptop and im frustrated! thank you for any suggestions!

If you create a new Windows user and test with that does the problem still occur?

If you test in Safe Mode, can you make the changes to the Icon Settings and have them remain in place in whilst in Safe Mode?

Is any other installed software causing this problem to happen?

i del the user profile for the other account i got on here - its standard - then i tested it and it worked for that desktop (icon settings stay put)!!! but there is no way i can copy profiles over because it absolutely refuses to work on my main admin desktop - the user profile stuff in
Win 7 is too confusing for my brain right now - doesnt make sense really - but i appreciatee your good suggestions - pls sir i want some more!

It appears that your main user's account has become corrupted. Here are the usual remedies for you to try.


Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Try it first by not checking either box (this will run it in a Read-only mode) to see if it flags any hard drive or file problems. If it does, restart it by ticking both boxes, and rerun it to allow it to attempt to fix any found problems.
