Hi there. Just to clarify, I know nothing about the Project Management business...I won't understand any acronyms.
I have been charged with the task of finding project management/communications system for the oil and gas company I work for in calgary canada.
Here's what they want:
- the ease of use like google gmail, and facebook, and the fedex.com shipmanager site. (these might sounds like strange requests, but our CEO is young, and is very internet savvy).
- ability to define different "workflows" ( for example one work flow might the be all the tasks that are required to drill an exploratory well, another might be to review some land that is coming up for sale, another might be to develop an existing pool we already own)
- i think he is envisioning a web-based system, that allows all member of our company, who complete different parts of the workflow, to go and update their progress on a specific part of the workflow, so that others can see it and if they are relying on this person to finish one part of the flow, they can check back a couple times a day to see if they are done....rather than 10 people sending the person who is supposed to be focused on getting this one task done 5 emails each to see if he's done.....does that make sense?
- we were told by one of our Geologists that they spend 65% of their day dealing with badgering other workers to get their job done, looking for information, and writing emails yaddah yaddah..you know the story, ...and only 35% of the time actually looking for oil and gas.
- he said something about ajax based, like gmail.
- he wants it tied into a system where allllll our documents are digital, readily viewable through the web, and backed up in 4 different places, over the web.
- the company has money. they dont' need free.
so who here understands the jist of what were looking for? and whose got some recommendations.
