If you migrate data from a server to another, (eg. server1 -> server2) is there an easy way to change the syncronization path for the offline files, on your laptop, from the old server to the new one, or do you have to go through each single file and compare it with the cached files on your laptop?

Hope you understand, sorry for my bad english...

Maybe it is an idea to run regedit and change server1 to server 2 at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
\Network\Persistent Connections

bcastner,

I think what wemmen is saying is that offline files is still trying to synchronize files from \\server1\data even though the files have now been moved to \\server2\data.

If that is the case, then offline files on the laptop is just pointing to the wrong server lcoation.

The best way I know of is to open any explorer window, click Tools > Options > Offline Files, then press ctrl+shift while clicking the Delete button. this allows one to delete the entire "offline" cache including server paths, and start over, after a reboot.

thefourthwall,

If the circumstance is as you describe, then the MS tool described and linked by me above, freeware, would move the CSC from one volume, or from one volume/server to another volume/server, and resolve all registry issues for the move.

I am baffled why you would try, in the presence of a known freeware tool by Microsoft, to mess with the GPOs and then the deletion of the physical directories involved?

I say I am baffled, as I have noted other comments by you, all excellent, and I fear I am missing something crucial in your response. And I mean this as sincerely as a post can possibly express the sentiment. If there is a tool that allows one to do the CSC move, what exactly is the benefit from doing it by hand?

Bill

Hi
you can use the scscmd.exe command (available in ressource KIt).It will redirect the synchro to the new server.
CSCMD.exe /MOVESHARE:<\\server\share> <\\server\share>.
I am currenty using this tool for a migration, but I have several problems. If you use this tool, your feedback is more than welcome.
