I don't even know where to start..a user was having problems synchronising his off-line folders. For some reason, when he got back into the network it would not synch (it would come up with some weird thing about not having permissions even though he did) unless he logged on using his cached password and then just inserted the network cable into his machine. It would then detect network connectivity and then it would synch. Go figure.
So anyway on Monday it wouldn't synch at all saying incoorect parameter specified. The directory existed on the network so I don't know what caused that. Despite all attempts to get it to synch, it kept coming up with that same error, so what we did was create a folder on the user's C-drive called "Katherine" and copied all files from the offline folder which had changed or needed to be synched into that Katherine folder. So, theoretically, all the files were split between the network share and the folder Katherine which should have contained all the replacement or new files.
So I went into My Computer etc went to Tools->Folder Options and unchecked the box called "Enable Offline Folders." Then I mapped him directly to the network share and he should then have been able to just move files from Katherine into the network share and it should have been up to date. This was all going to plan until the user said that some folders were missing from the network share, which couldn't be explained.
So then I wanted to re-enable offline folders so that I could open up his local offline files and copy and paste them from there onto the network share (no idea why the folders weren't on the network drive...another story), but I was worried about what might happen since I needed to make sure that the local offline folders (still there under wnnt/csc - about 2.5Gb worth) wasn't going to be reset etc. So I renamed csc to csc-old and then clicked on enable off-line folders etc and it created a new CSC folder.
Now what I need is to blow away the new CSC folder and rename CSC-old to CSC and hopefully when I click on Offline Folders it opens up what was CSC-old, right?? But I can't delete CSC because it says that access is denied (even though I've even logged on as the administrator and still get that message, and have taken off the checkbox to enable offline fodlers). I can rename CSC-old to CSC (even though CSC-old still has Hidden attributes, so it must remember that it's a system file) but I can't delete the existing CSC, so I'm stuck!!
The newly created CSC file isn't hidden etc, but yet I can't rename it?? So basically I need to blow away CSC (which I can't do) and rename CSC-old to CSC. But, then I will need to re-enable offline folders (will this reset my newly renamed CSC though and delete the contents??). Then when I double click on Offline Folders I'm hoping that the contents of CSC (formerly CSC-old) will appear.
How does this all sound?? Unless there is something somewhere that enables you to open up CSC folders, in which case I'll use that to open up CSC-old.
Well, I'm hoping that that all made sense - what does everything think of this?? Help!!
