Hi everyone,

This customer has no internet service onsite and needs to add a couple of licenses which he has already addedd to App. Record. (AMC).

From AMC, he has downloaded a a zip file which appparently contains new licences.

The downloaded file contains a couple of folders: AMC, 6??????6, sync, inbox, and then a file called "licensekey.3300icp" Note that 6??????6 is the Application Record ID.

The question is, how can he add this licenses to the 3300?

Regards,

Daniel

you can do this one of two ways use the software installer tool and put the folder containing all the files in the C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Mitel\Mitel 3300 ICP Software Installer\AMC

Make sure the folder name is the App record name

Also you can put the folder in the FTP root folder

Working in Offline Mode
The MCD needs to synchronize its licensing information with the Application Management
Center (AMC) on a periodic basis. If your MCD has internet connectivity, the synchronization
process is automatic. However, if your MCD lacks internet connectivity, you need to employ
manual methods to validate and install the license files. These methods vary depending upon
whether you are installing the initial software load or performing an upgrade.
To license an "offline" system during the initial software installation:
• Use the MCD Software Installer to install the software. Refer to the "Offline Licensing"
procedure in the MCD Software Installer help for instructions on how to validate and
install the license file.
To license an "offline" system during the upgrade software installation:
1. Before the scheduled software upgrade begins, access the AMC and navigate to the
ARID / GARID for your system.
2. Select the software upgrade or patch you are about to install.
3. Click Download License Files and download the file to the local computer.
4. Unzip the file and copy the license keys to the AMC folder on the FTP server you are
using for scheduled software downloads.
5. Schedule the Software Upgrade Event.
When the scheduled software upgrade occurs, the MCD will fail to synchronize with the
AMC. The MCD will then search the FTP server for the license keys. If the keys are
found, the upgrade proceeds. If the keys are not found, the upgrade is aborted.

This is from the update course material, although it states that it is an upgrade process not updating licensing.
To license an "offline" system during the upgrade software installation:
1. Before the scheduled software upgrade begins, access the AMC and navigate to the ARID / GARID for your system.
2. Select the software upgrade or patch you are about to install.

You could setup the FTP Server, try to retrieve license and when it fails to connect to the AMC hopefully it will reach out to the External FTP Server and retrieve licenses.

This will use the external FTP Server programmed in the 3300.

Let us know how you go, I'm curious to how this is done as well.

You have to use the off line mode as detailed above. Just as a comment what I have done is use my laptop with a cell card to act as the bridge to the AMC. Use Microsoft ICS to establish the link. Saves having to do the off line mode.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

@LoopyLou

I don't even think you need to use Microsoft ICS, as long as your laptop has an internet connection and connection to the 3300 I think it is good to go.

I have had one of our techs in a bad service area for wireless and had him walk out to get service while using the software installer at the license retrieval stage and then go back to the controller once retrieved and continue with the install. As far as I know this worked.

Could be wrong but think you need to setup ICS so the NIC can use the wireless as its gateway. Again could be wrong.

Yes ICS will need to be enable to use the WiFi as gateway for NIC, I would think this is if you want the 3300 to access the AMC for licensing.

The way I mention is if you want to retrieve licensing via the laptop and apply it to the 3300 via Software Installer with out the 3300 having direct internet access even through ICS.

I could be wrong too.

The only issue with additional licencing with the Software Installer, it's not obvious and it will reboot the 3300

Have raised this exact issue with Mitel and i believe they are looking at addressing it in MCD6

If anyone has got a way of using the pc as a bridge to the internet from the actual 3300 that would be worth an FAQ

As I mentioned if you have a wireless card you can use the PC as a bring to the internet. You establish a wireless connection and set the IP address of the laptops NIC to be that programmed as a gateway in the 3300. Then using windows ICS you can have the 3300 contact the AMC via the laptop. Is that what you mean?

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

You can change the IP address of the internal NIC card of the laptop. You could change the address of the internal NIC to match that of the default gateway programmed in the 3300. Then the 3300 will send its requests to contact the AMC to your laptop which then forwards it out to the internet via its wireless card. Least thats how I remember it working.

Even did the ICS thing to get a teleworking working to show a customer. Just neede a power brick for the phone.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.
