I'm currently using Office XP and I have the most current update from Microsoft. this problem happend sometimes only,
when I open MS Word, I edit it, and later I want to save, I can't save becuase it said that this file is read only. This file is my file on my desk top, and I'm the only one using it. How can I fix this problem, any help is greatly appreciated

I have had similar problems with XP. I eventually installed 2000 instead on my machine. I was doing a work around however. I saved the file again as a different name, ex. adding a 1 to the end of it or something. Sorry I don't have a definite answer.

What operating system and file system are you using? Sounds like Win 2K or WinXP with NTFS which are real fussy about ownership and access. Close the file. Go to the folder the file is in. Right click the file and look at properties on the bottom of the menu. If read-only is checked, uncheck it and try to edit the file again. Also, if someone else has edited the file they may have inadvertently set it so only one person can edit the file. It's very complicated,No?

I'm using windows XP, and microsoft Xp, and I just bought the computer for less than a year. This problem I'm having, is weird, becuase it's the file I created on my desktop, and not sharing with anyone. and it's became read only sometime, it's not just one file, it's different file too.
