I've been given the task of figuring out how to wire up a light over the boss's door, so that when he's on the phone, the light is on. This way, people know he's on the phone, and don't walk into his office unnecessarily.
We have a "Classic" IPK with Dterm80's.
So, there's a couple of ways of approaching this....
1) Perhaps a magnetic reed sensor in the cradle, that completes a circuit when the handset is lifted.
2) I could glom onto the LED circuit for his extension, but I don't want to hack into a phone THAT much.
3) Perhaps something that senses voltage on the handset cord, which doesn't have any voltage until the phone goes offhook.
4) A programming change, perhaps to take a CO or SL port "off hook" (essentially closing a relay) when that phone goes off hook (I thought about a "hotline" thing, but that would just do dial-down and not allow regular use of the phone).
5) Plantronics makes some sort of hands-free device with an in-use accessory.
Just my 2¢
