Here's what's happening:

I'll open up Microsoft Word 2003 and the first thing I try to do is pull down the drop list of fonts. As soon as I click it, Word freezes up. If I open the task manager, there are suddenly 2 "Document 1 - Microsoft Word" applications instead of 1 and both are not responding. After about 20 seconds the drop list of fonts opens and everything returns to normal. I've had similar problems with Excel recently. It's only been happening since earlier this week. So far I've tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling it but that didn't help. Why am I having this problem?

u may have some drives that are no longer valid. go to windows explorer and disconnect those drives.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. What type of drive and what would I be looking for in Windows Explorer?

Sounds like a corrupt or inaccessible printer driver. Make sure that you have the latest driver for your printer, then delete and reinstall the printer driver.

I don't have a printer. When I'm home I connect to a printer attached to another computer through our home network but that printer's drivers aren't on my computer. I don't think any printer's drivers are on my computer.

That's your problem. Word MUST have a local printer driver to work correctly (I believe PowerPoint is the same). Install a local printer - it doesn't matter if you don't have one or it isn't connected, Word just needs to driver.

The best solution is to install your home computer as a local printer and set it as Windows Default. Then once everything is working, go back to your current ocnfiguration and when you need to print, select the shared printer.

Problem solved! All I did was switch the default printer to Microsoft Office Document Image Writer. Thanks everyone.
