Hi,

We got +/- 250 users of office in our network. We moved to Office 2003 a while ago and no serious problems were reported until now.

More and more people are complaining that they can open office (mostly excel) files with more users and that they got no message stating 'FILE IN USE' or something in that order.

I already searched on the MS support and on google, but nothing...

Is here someone who has a similar problem and better who's got a solution for it.

Tnx,

YO

The prompt should say . " File isn use by user : XXXXX"
and it should have a button that says "Open the file as read only "
You may open the file as read only.

It should also prompt the user when user XXXX has closed the file and then the file can be written too and edited too .

Hi,

thanks for the reply, but I think you do not understand correctly the problem.

Everything you state is what it SHOULD DO, but the problem is that it doesn't.

The users do not got any of those messages and instead more users can open the same file in write mode, which has the ugly consequence that they start overwriting each others changes in the files, or worse, the file got corrupt and can not be used anymore.

tnx,

YO

Thanks

No, they are on a SAN network drive.

The workbooks in itself are not shared.

Hi YO123! Did you ever solve this problem? We're having the same problem and I'm still looking for the solution. Can you help?

Thanks!

No, we never solved the problem.

We now are very carefull with all the shared files. :)

not a very satisfying situation, but its the only we could come up with :)
