Office applications close themself?!?!

Ok... Here is the symptom... When I open word 2000 or excel 2000 they close themselves in about three seconds... Here is what I have done so far... Ran Office repair utility... Didn't work. Uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office three times... Didn't work. Uninstalled, ran Eraser 2000 (a tool by Microsoft to remove MS Office registry entries), reinstalled... Didn't work. I would really like to use my MS Office tools again without having to do a total reinstall!!! Any ideas?!?!?!?!

Maybe your normal.dot is corrupted. This file is untouched when installing, removing, reg-cleaning Office. Try moving this file from your Application Data directory to a spare directory and start Word. Likewise your Excel problem.

I had this problem running windows 2000. I gave the user in question administrator rights and the problem stopped. it was a quick fix but I don't if it was the right one!
