Hello - Let me state that I am a common user - not a computer specialist of any sort. I am searching for answers that I could not locate on Microsofts support website nor through the "Office Help" that is provided with the program. This is my first question - I was a big user of the "split screen" function in the previous version of Office/Outlook. I can't seem to locate any such option in Office/Outlook 2007. Does anyone know if there is such a capability in the "new" 2007 version of Outlook? My next question is this -although I continue to try to overide the standard font in Outlook - and appears that I have successfully done so in the "options" menu - my emails continue to default to a plain font that is not my choice. I have no idea why - the settings under "options" remains altered to my selection - it just appears to have a disconnect of sorts. It makes me crazy to have to manually select my favorite bold font every time I write or respond to an email. Any ideas or help that someone can offer (in laymans terms...)?
My sincere thanks.

1. Would you describe to me what you mean by 'split screen'? If it helps, I can tell you that you cannot open two sessi0ons of Outlook 2007 simultaneously.

2. Have you set your mail to HTML under Tools, Options Mail Format tab and set the Fonts under Stationery and Fonts button? Did you change the Plain Text font option too? Is it new mail or reply to mail that the font selection is incorrect?

tf1 - Thanks for responding. When I refer to a "split screen" - there was an option under the "actons" tab called "split screen" that allowed me to literally apply a linear line or a horizontal "split" to my screen - so when working on a long document that I needed to refer back to constantly I was able to "halve" the screen and view the upper half of the document for easy reference while typing my response visually immediatly below it but in reality it was being placed at the top of the screen as is typical for any email response - thus the split part of the screen eliminated the superfluous and irrelevant data in the middle and it moved with me as I went lower in my response. I could undo it and place it again anywhere within the document that I needed it if my focus on a reply shifted... It was a "snapshot" of the relevant part of the document I was responding to/a line through the middle horizontally/ and my reply only. It was a wonderful tool that eliminated having to manually scroll up and down or click all over a document to refer back to a point and data that you want to respond to within the same email. Does that illustrate it for you adequately? And yes, I do understand that I cannot open 2 sessions of Outlook 2007 simultaneously...
And to point #2 - to your asking if I have changed my font settings etc. the answer yes - that's the craziest part of this! It continues to default back regardless of what I have set in the tools, mail options, fonts, and mail format both in outgoing and reply options. I am beat at this... Other thoughts?
I eagerly await your response.
My thanks.

I can confirm that the former Split screen option is lost from OL 2007. I will request this is reinstated for the next release, but unless there has been a significant number of requests/complaints about its loss, it is unlikely to be reinstated unless it is easy to code.

Is there any pattern to the font change problem? Does it come from one source say a particular company or from one mail provider or is this just a random occurrence? Maybe from users with a different email client installed?

I presume that a New Email is always OK?

There is a way to do a split in an e-mail in Outlook 2007. Right above the vertical scroll bar on the right hand side when in a new e-mail in Outlook 2007 you should see a little 'icon' for 'View Ruler' When you click it, it will toggle the ruler either off or on....now for the good part.....

....right above the 'View Ruler' icon is a TINY little icon with a horizontal line in it. Double click that icon with the horizontal line in it and the work area for the e-mail will split. You can click and drag on the split, just like you did in Word to re-position the split. To get rid of the split, just double-click the split and it will go away.

As for your fonts not working correctly, I'm not sure about that.....sorry.

If you don't see the buttons/icons I refer to above to be able to use the split feature in Outlook 2007, please let me know and I can e-mail you screen shots of what I'm talking about.

dodomfcg - You are the bomb! I found it and got it to work just as you identified in your post! You would have thought that Microsoft would have identified that option somewhere in the tutorial. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
tf1 - I've never been able to identify a pattern with my font woes. I can say this though - my new emails typically do not conform to my set-up font (meaning I start to type and it is New Times Roman or Tahoma but not in bold so I have to go and manually change it and start again), but my replies frequently are correct (Tahoma, bold 9pt font in black - that's what I chose for all of my font choices...). It is not consistent with only one server source but an equal opportunity flaw and random (or so I believe at this point - I will be more alert to this now). What else can you think of that might be pertinent?
My many thanks and regards,

You may try deleting normalemail.dotm which will be recreated when you next open Outlook. Change the fonts to your settings again and see if that resolves the problem. You should find it in your profile under AppData, Roaming, Microsoft, Templates.
