Anyone using Outlook 2007 in Windows 7 and incorporating a Hotmail E-mail Account (perhaps as well as your normal E-mail Account)?

I have noticed some minor problems in accessing the Hotmail Account from Outlook, such as having to try up to 3 times before it successfully opens Hotmail to read some mail, and other difficulties in sending mail via Hotmail. Each time I try to open (read) the account it presents me with the login box for my net passport, I don't have to type anything in it (it is already complete), I just click OK. It doesn't make any difference whether I tick for it to remember or not, the password box comes up 3 times before allowing me access.

Anyway is anyone else using Hotmail in Outlook on Windows 7?

linney, you're using the current Outlook connector for hotmail, correct? I hadn't tested it with Win7 until tonight and it seems to be working fine for me this evening. I usually use it on Vista+Outlook 2007 and it either works perfectly or stalls forever, so it wouldn't surprise me to see something similar in Win7. It seems to be working fine in both OS's at the moment for me.

Hi Steve,

I am not using any "Outlook Connector" in either Vista or Windows 7. I have no problems in Vista with just a basic Office 2007 suite and default install. In Windows 7, Hotmail sort of works but with repetitive login boxes appearing. I can't jump up and down too much about it as it is only beta. I have bugged it with Microsoft but they too say it is "not reproducible" although someone else also validated the bug report.

You are never too old to learn something new. I just got some feedback from Microsoft.

"Thank you for your feedback This is in reference to Hotmail and Outlook in Windows 7. Have you installed the Hotmail-Outlook connector ? This is now mandatory in order to configure Hotmail for outlook. The symptom you are describing is typical of machines that do not have the connector. You can download it from: Attention: do not use the connector tool for other pop3 accounts besides Hotmail. Cordially, Peres"

Thanks for the heads up, Steve, I have installed it now, and so far the problem has disappeared.

Now I'm definitely feeling my age following this last Feedback from Microsoft.

"Some of the older Hotmail accounts are allowed to go RPC over HHTP in Vista. You may have one of the older accounts. This is not the case anymore. THe connector will make the trick. Enjoy Windows 7 Peres"

Hi Mike, I'm surprised that you got Outlook to do anything at all without the connector (in either OS). I was one of the old hotmail users that was happily using Hotmail with Outlook Express and because I used it this way, I was 'grandfathered' and could continue even after they took that feature away. Then along came Vista & Windows Mail - and no more remote client connection to Hotmail. Since this was expected and known beforehand, I just started using the web interface and never actually tried with Outlook. At some point thereafter I happened to run across the outlook connector back when it was in Beta and used it that way ever since. And as I mentioned above, sometimes it works perfectly & sometimes it just stalls, but it's better than nothing.

Yep, I had the same experience as Steve. Mind you, I just switched to Windows Live Mail (what Windows Mail was supposed to have been) and that has a connector for Hotmail
