Office 2003: Spelling checker doesn't automatically recognize language

2 of my colleagues are complaining about the fact that their spelling checker in Word and Outlook doesn't automatically recognize the language anymore. Normally after typing one sentence, the checker detects the language and checks the spelling in the document, but now it doesn't. The one guy has a new installation, but the other one is a sudden change. The option to automatically detect the language is checked, so this could not be the problem. Any ideas what this could be?

Can you confirm that all the necessary languages are installed and that when they change the language manually, the spell checker works OK?

I confirm that all necessary languages are installed. When I select the text and change the language, the spell checker does its job like it should do.
