Hi,

I have a machine running office 2003 that some fool changed the language to Polish. I have no other machines running office 2003 to find out where I have to navigate to to change the language back to English.

Is there a registry setting I can change to revert back to English?

I would do a system restore, but I'm pretty sure it won't have a restore point before the date it got changed (I've not used the machine for about 5 months).

Thanks.

Rob

Start, Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft Office Languages, remove unwanted languages and set the default language.

Cheers,

I though of that, but again, it's all in Polish! I guess I'll have to install office 2003 on another PC and familiarise myself with it in English.

Cheers

Rob

If the whole machine is in Polish then you need to go through the Control Panel and it might require some guesswork.

You could look at HKCU\Control Panel\International but I have no knowledge of the impact of messing with this registry key. Good luck!

Enjoy,
Tony

Hi Tony,

No, the machine itself is in English (Win XP Pro), it is just office that is in Polish. All control panel language settings are correct.

Cheers.

When you open the documetn in Polish, is it all underlines with red squiggles?

If this is just one machine and one document, then open the documetn and go to Tools, Languages, Set Languages and select your default language and UNCHECK Automatically Detect Language option.

But if the Office Language setting (as I posted above) has been set and all other languages removed, I fail to understand why a document is forcing Polish to display.

Hi again,

To clarify:

The OS is in English (with no options to change the Office package language).

The Office installation is now in Polish (including the options from the start menu: Start, Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft Office Languages, remove unwanted languages and set the default language)

So to summise again: Where the PC is in English there are no options to change the Office language, and where the options are is all in Polish.

Anyway, I reinstalled Office, and it reverted to the default input language for XP.

Job done!

Regards,

Rob
