I got an issue with some user that I got. They are having crash issues with office 2k, either it be a memory read error or whenever they try to print, the software crashes and returns you to the desktop. Now the thing that gets me is that it only happens with a certain user. I log in the PC, and re-do the same steps as the user and it works fine and prints fine. I have the lastest SP for both office and windows 2k, and I have tried deleting the user account and having windows re-create a similar account with a different SID. I have also tried to uninstall and re-install office twice (2 different disks) and still no results. Anyone got a solution or similar issue?????

What gets me is that it pertains to that certain user and no one else

Try giving this user Admin rights to the workstation and see if the problem continues. If it goes away, then most likely his rights on that system are not adequate enough to use Office, as you have it installed. If it's OK to leave him with Admin rights, then that's your answer. Otherwise, you need to provide higher rights to that user for this program in the system registry. Microsoft Knowledgebase Article 290231 describes what to do. Hope this helps. Michael

I forgot to mention that his account is the local admin and just a regular domain user on the network. But all in all, other users can use the office suite fine and they are regular users on the machine/domain.

It could still be the registry settings for Office. Check the knowledgebase and make sure that his specific login has FULL CONTROL rights. Depending on which account you were logged in as when you installed Office, as well as the choices you made during the installation, you could have reduced the rights for that account. Michael

What gets me is that why is on this user and no other user. I enabled the guest account and that worked fine too. I also double checked the 'user' account and he does have all the rights.

It has to be a security issue within Office. Perhaps, in the beginning, he unsuccessfully accessed one of the programs. From then on, Windows tagged his name as not having the proper rights and only by removing that limitation from the registry would resolve the problem.

If you have a clone of your software load and userlist on another machine, try exporting the Office keys from the registry and importing it into the failing system.

What would be great is if you can search for the username's security settings in the registry but I don't know how that's done. Michael
