So I am working at an off site location that is on the local domain (or used to be). Today they have lost connectivity to the domain. I attempted to remove a computer from the domain and add it back in. that is when I received the error “the specified network name is no longer available”. I am able to ping the servers on the domain, and remote into the servers. I am also able to connect to the servers using their ip addresses but not using their QDN, which makes me think it is an dns issue. I have reset the router at the off site location to no avail…. Any ideas?

thanks

Ok.. well we'll need a little more information.

Is the computer you removed the DNS server?

Other things to look at - how is IP address configured (Static or DCHP?) .. do an ipconfig/all find out what the DNS server ip addresses are - and see if you can ping them.

Make sure that all address for DNS servers are internal only!!!
One of the issues i'd run into here are random failed QDN connections to the Exchange server because my predecessor did not trust the DNS root forwards on the firewall. So he'd statically set up external DNS Name server address on every machine in the shop!! So i know it's a long shot for you to check.. but it'd be the first thing i would look at.
