Is there any way to configure an indicator on a 7941/7961 or 7971 phone to tell when another user is on the phone? We have been able to set this up but it also shows the incoming calls to the other person and their missed calls are also showing up. We just want an off hook indicator.

In CCM 5, they offer a feature called Busy Lamp Field. It should tell you if they are on the phone or not. It will also double as a speed dial to that extension.

That is exactly what I am looking for. Where do I find that setting?

You have to allow a BLF button in the button template for that phone. Then in the phone profile you can see a BLF button on the left side of the screen. Click on it and configure it just like a speed dial (except you have to also specify a partition).

I allowed and configured the BLF button, except I don't see any place to specify a partition for it. The button appears on the phone now, but it only functions as a speed dial. BTW - I am on Call Manager 5.1.

Sorry, I remembered incorrectly. Leave the Destination field blank. Click on the Find button and search for the extension you want. Once you've check the extension, it will now display the extension and partition under the Directory Number field.

If you click the help button on that screen, it will go into the details. There appear to be some limitations if you are using SIP phones.

I set it up just as you described and it still just works as a speed dial. We are using Cisco 7941/7961 phones. Is a presence server required for this feature?

Doing some digging, it appears that the presence server is needed. We got that at the same time as our 5.1 upgrade, so I didn't think of that as being a requirement. After checking the presence help, it appears the BLF is a feature of presence.

Sorry, it looks like you are stuck doing shared directory numbers for now.

Ok, that's what I thought. Thanks for your help.

Holy cow...you need a separate server to get BLF?

"Cha ching." :) I knew they offered it in later releases, but I had no idea you needed a separate server and application for it to work.

You get BLF and Presence in CCM 5.1 without a seperate server. I know they offer a seperate server but I just installed CCM 5.1 using just the CCM disk and after configuring it, it works fine. You can see if someone is on the phone or not in Corp Directory. Missed Calls, etc. We do not have a seperate server.

I was able to get the BLF feature working. Here is what I had to do:

1. Bring up the Phone configuration page for the phone needing the BLF button.
2. Go to the Protocol Specific Information section and fill in the field that says "SUBSCRIBE Calling Search Space".
3. Then add a BLF button and it works
