Here is a new OE6 problem, as far as I can tell from searching this and many other sources. I am trying to solve this for my brother-in-law who is not so tech.

First, this is NOT the "unsafe attachments" issue. The relevant check box is not ticked.

Symptoms:
- Mail attachments are visible in the header, with the correct miniature icon. They can be saved to disk. When saved, a Word doc, for example, opens correctly in Word, suggesting that file associations are all fine. (Same for all file types tested.)

- If, instead of saving, you double-click on the attahcment, Word opens correctly, but it says that it cannot find the file. "this file could not be found, try one of these things..." (None of the suggestions help)

- This happens for all file types tested. (JPG, MPEG, AVI, Excel, TXT)

- Sending as plain text or HTML makes no difference.

- I send all test mails from the same version of OE6 as the receiver.

- Both our systems are fully up to date via Win Update.

- As Outlook is not involved, the WMAIL.DAT issue cannot be the problem.

Any ideas?

Maurice

I'm going with: the environment variable for the temporary location of attachments is missing/wrong. If you advise what operating system, we can have a closer look.

Right click on My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab, Environment Variables button. Do you have both the following User variables: TEMP and TMP? The Value (path) for both should be C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp

Also, make sure that path (including all folders) actually exists. You will need to enable the viewing of hidden & system files to follow that path.

I am having the exact same problem, my user is using Outlook 2000 on Win2k with all of the office and windows updates, the temp path is ok, he is an administrator on his box, but every attachment no matter what type it is gives me the same message "The system cannot find the file specified" but if he saves it to the HD and opens it the file opens with no problem. I can't find anything out here to help with this error, lets put our heads together.
