I copy the OE v5.01/5.5 folder from a machine running win2k onto a cd; the wipped the hd. Next I formated and installed XP with OE v6.0 and now I want to import all my messages and address from the burned CD on to my new XP OE folder but I still can't see my old addresses or messages. What am I doing wrong and how can I correct that?

For every problem there is a solution, for every solution there is a tech behind it.

When you burn OE files to a CD they become read only. When you copy the files back to the hard drive you need to remove the read only attribute.

Cheers.

What does Read-Only have to do with importing files from the CD to my OE?

I don't know exactly why it works that way because I don't use OE or dbx or pst files, but when you burn to a cd the file attributes are set to read only.

To restore the file you have to first copy it to your hard disk and remove the read only attributel. I've seen several posts in this and other forums concerning having to copy the files back to the HD and remove the read only attribute before you can sucessfully restore your email.

Cheers.

I am not sure of the actual steps you have taken at this time to resolve this problem, so please bare with me while we start from the top.

1. Have you tried the import command from Outloo Express?
If so, did you receive an error message?

2. Have you tried the copy the files to the hard drive (seperate folder) and then run the import command?

As far as the read only attributes, I have never seen that to be an issue, although It may work.

I had the same or similar problem. As I remember you have to open the original OE and export the address Book and/or messages. Then you have to open your new OE and import your address book and\or messages.

Since you have burned your old OE to a CD you may have to install it somewhere on your harddrive and then do what I suggested. Luckily I still had my old computer and could do as suggested. Try this and if you have any questions email me at poston8@comcast.net

Good Luck.
