One of my users sporadically gets a file on his desktop after sending an email. The file shows up on his desktop and has the name "~". It has no extension and is only recoginized as a file in its properties. Opening the file in notepad shows garbled text and e-mail addresses from his address book scattered throughout it. It looks like some sort of temp file or something. Anybody ever seen this? He's running outlook express on Windows NT. Thanks.

Howdy:

Yep.. simply a quirk from one of the patches or critical updates he installed from Microsoft.. The update places this "folder" on the desktop everytime the Contact List/Address Book is accessed.. Just delete it..

That's weird. There's no fix for this?

Uninstall the patch or update.. but then, you are defeating the purpose and reasoning behind the patch !!!

try renaming it to some a.wab then double click on it..it should be your address book.
